April is recognized as National Donate Life Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about the critical need for organ donation in the United States. Currently, nearly 110,000 people are on the national transplant waiting list, and tragically, an average of 13 individuals die each day waiting for an organ that never becomes available. For those fortunate enough to receive a transplant, the process extends well beyond surgery. Recipients often require extensive support that includes mentorship, guidance through complex medical systems, and financial assistance to help manage ongoing medical and personal challenges.
In 2025, Dr. Bronner’s initiated a philanthropic program known as the Organ Transplant Giving Circle, created in partnership with Purpose in Expenses (PIE). This program was started by employees with personal connections to organ donation, whether as recipients themselves or as living donors. Their direct experience provides valuable insight and ensures that the Giving Circle’s support is meaningful and impactful. Through this collaboration with PIE, the initiative successfully raised close to $20,000 to support organizations serving transplant recipients.
The Giving Circle embodies Dr. Bronner’s Cosmic Principle #6, “Fund & Fight for What’s Right,” reflecting the company’s commitment to social justice and positive change. Employees involved in the program dedicate time to researching grassroots nonprofits that offer essential services to transplant patients and their families. This includes identifying organizations that focus on one-on-one mentorship, emotional support, and financial guidance, ensuring that funds are allocated to initiatives that have a tangible impact.
Two primary organizations were selected to benefit from the Giving Circle’s support: the American Transplant Foundation (ATF) and Organ Transplant Support (OTS). The ATF provides customized guidance to transplant recipients and their families, assisting with the emotional, medical, and logistical challenges of transplantation. Its 1+1=LIFE Mentorship Program connects patients with trained mentors who offer support in multiple languages, covering everything from emotional encouragement to donor search strategies. Dr. Bronner’s funding contributed to ATF’s efforts, helping the organization raise over $250,000 during its 20th anniversary celebration.
Organ Transplant Support, located in Chicago, delivers comprehensive mentoring and community support to individuals at every stage of the transplant process. This includes virtual and local programs, one-on-one mentoring, weekly support groups, and monthly educational sessions. OTS ensures that patients and families do not face the transplant journey alone, fostering a sense of connection and stability during what can be an extremely challenging period.
During National Donate Life Month, Dr. Bronner’s hosted an internal presentation where a living donor and a transplant recipient shared their personal stories. Lifesharing, the organ procurement organization serving San Diego and Imperial Counties, also participated, providing education on the importance of organ donation and encouraging employees to register as donors.
The Organ Transplant Giving Circle demonstrates Dr. Bronner’s commitment to meaningful social impact, highlighting the importance of community support for transplant patients. By raising awareness and providing financial and mentorship resources, the initiative aims to inspire others to take action, register as donors, and contribute to a cause that can save lives.
